Promoting MSCA in Korea

05.09.2023
At the “Study in Europe Fair” which took place in Seoul, Korea, in June 2023, MSCAdvocacy met with students and scientists to discuss current funding opportunities for Korean researchers offered by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme.

Cooperation with Korea is a priority for the EU and there is strong potential to work for mutual benefit in a wide range of areas. Researcher mobility schemes such as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are also considered as highly important to increase research collaboration.

The European Commission, Euraxess Korea as well as MSCAdvocacy experts therefore took the opportunity to present MSCA to students and researchers at the Study in Europe Fair South Korea in Seoul in June 2023. The MSCAdvocacy team also had intensive discussions with students, young researchers and academics about what the MSCA programme has on offer.

Co-funding opportunities through the NRF

As South Korea is not yet associated with Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation, MSCAdvocacy particularly promoted co-funding opportunities through the Korean National Research Foundation (NRF) during their talks with students and in-depth advice on further MSCA Actions such as Staff Exchange and Doctoral Networks.

Korean research institutes show great interest in collaboration

Additionally, the team also met with several research institutions, including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). These institutions expressed a keen interest in the MSCA programme, particularly in terms of staff exchanges and doctoral networks, and the MSCAdvocacy team will gladly support them in finding the right contacts and information.

Discussions with students from Yonsei University and the Institute of Basic Science also provided valuable insights into their needs and aspirations, for instance more information in Korean language, and in-depth advice on further MSCA Actions such as Staff Exchange and Doctoral Networks.
