Fostering international cooperation in MSCA

How can Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), the EU flagship programme for researchers’ mobility and training, be aligned with research and innovation activities of other nations and regions in order to achieve their full potential?

In June 2022, the European Commission (EC) has launched a new project named ‘MSCAdvocacy’ that offers a range of services to policy makers, research institutions, individual researchers, innovators and multipliers to help facilitate international collaboration within MSCA under Horizon Europe. MSCAdvocacy’s services focus on 20 international partner countries and six regions.

MSCAdvocacy promotes MSCA at Moroccan Horizon Europe Info Day

MSCAdvocacy joined the annual International Conference on Education Quality (ICEQ) at the University of Ibn Zohr in Agadir, Morocco. Aim of the mission was to discuss and explore opportunities and challenges of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) with various stakeholders including the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Erasmus+ and COST representatives. MSCA and Horizon Europe National Contact Points (NCPs), the PRIMA National Contact Point, EURAXESS Africa, as well as university students and representatives also joined the talks.

Australia´s scientists appreciate research cooperation with Europe

MSCAdvocacy met with stakeholders from Australian universities, the EU Delegation, EURAXESS Australia & New Zealand and the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce to discuss opportunities and challenges for Australian institutions to participate in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), the EU´s reference programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training during a visit to the country in February 2024.

Canada to join Horizon Europe in the middle of 2024

Canada’s upcoming association with Horizon Europe is a significant milestone in international research and innovation collaboration. This partnership will provide Canadian researchers with manifold opportunities, in particular for EU-Canadian joint projects related to Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (pillar II).
In addition, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) will continue to offer broad options for Canadian researchers’ mobility.

MSCAdvocacy mission to China to grasp EU-China mobility

MSCAdvocacy, a project funded by Horizon Europe to promote research and staff mobility under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), concluded a comprehensive mission to China in September 2023. The mission aimed to explore and understand the intricacies of research collaboration between Europe and China, with a particular focus on the potential increase in researcher and staff mobility flows under the MSCA.

MSCA contributes to develop equitable science relations between Africa and Europe

MSCAdvocacy aims to support a more sustainable and strategic increase in the participation of African Union (AU) member states in MSCA. A first mission to two of the best performing AU countries in MSCA, Kenya and South Africa, in November and December 2023, revealed how MSCA are generally perceived, what opportunities are seen for the programme with the continent, and what obstacles and challenges institutions face in participating.

With 3,730 local and international delegates, the Science Forum South Africa is arguably the largest scientific gathering in South Africa and continues to grow each year. MSCAdvocacy co-organised a side event presenting the opportunities and achievement of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) in South Africa and beyond.

In a significant stride towards enhancing research collaboration between South Africa and the EU, MSCAdvocacy visited key South African institutions. This visit marked a crucial step in discussing current opportunities and challenges in promoting the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme to a wider range of researchers and scientific institutions in South Africa.

Showcasing MSCA in Japan to increase non-academic and industrial sectors participation

MSCAdvocacy met with representatives of Japanese funding organisations, industry stakeholders and national and European institutions to discuss the current opportunities for researchers under the EU’s MSCA research mobility and training scheme.

Switzerland’s robust research and innovation system, substantial financial resources, and a strong commitment to fostering excellence in research and education together with European partners make the country a successful player in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Potential is identified for a stronger involvement of the private sector.
